Bayern Munich Ties Down Cameroonian Superstar

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has signed a two-year extension with Bundesliga Champions Bayern Munich. The Cameroon international has filled an important squad role at the Allianz Arena, deputizing for Polish striker Roberto Lewandowski.

Choupo-Moting’s initial one-year contract was to expire this summer. The 32-year-old signed on a free transfer from French giants PSG in 2020.

“I am proud to be here. FC Bayern is a very special club, the number one club in Germany and also one of the best clubs in the world,” Choupo-Moting told Bayern Munich’s official website.

Despite being an understudy to Lewandowski, Choupo-Moting managed 32 appearances across all competitions, scoring nine goals. He scored in both UEFA Champions League quarterfinal games against his former side PSG.

“We are happy that Maxim will stay with us for another two years,” said Board Member for Sport Hasan Salihamidzic.

“He is a very important player for us, performing strongly last season and scoring many goals. Maxim can be used in several positions, has very good technique, a lot of experience, and is a goal threat.

“Aside from his sporting quality, Maxim is also important for our team as a person. He will help us achieve our goals in the next two years,” adds Salihamidzic.
