Wokorach to Lead Uganda 7s in Hunt for Last Olympic Ticket in Monaco

Uganda 7s is in Pool B of the tournaments and will face the likes of Jamaica, France, Hong Kong and Chile

Michael Wokorach will lead Uganda 7s team in the hunt for the final Olympic ticket at the repechage in Monaco.

Philip Wokorach, Solomon Okia, Aaron Ofoywroth, and Adrian Kasito all make up the team. Apart from Philip, the rest of the squad is home-based.

Uganda 7s will be joined by Zimbabwe in the Men’s tournament. Madagascar and Tunisia are Africa’s representatives in the women’s tournament.

Uganda 7s will look to join Kenya 7s and the Blitzboks who have already qualified for the showpiece in Japan.

The tournament kicks off on June 19 at the Stade Louis II stadium in Monaco. A total of 5,000 fans will be allowed at the tournament.

The tournament will qualify one men’s team and two women’s teams.

Prior to the naming of the squad, the Uganda 7s team had taken part in several preparation tournaments including the Emirates Invitational 7s and the Rugby Africa Solidarity Camp in Stellenbosch, South Africa last month.

Onyango, a former Kenya International exuded confidence in a recent interview with World Rugby. “We are confident enough that if we stick to our game plan and play our structures, we should be able to get a good result at the end of the day.”
